Word from the President

Hello,

Well Serpent Lake has come and gone and we had two standout performances! Congrats to Jason who found the lakes big smallies pulling in just under 17 pounds taking first place along with big bass for the year and he took over the points lead as well with that victory. Jason was catching his fish off the different sunken rock piles. Good job Jason and good luck at state.

Rod and Justin brought in just under 16 pounds taking second place despite all of Rods batteries went dead around 1 o'clock. Rod and Justin took their fish from deep weeds fishing rather slow the way it sounded to me.

We did have a light turnout for this tournament which helped keep the points lead close and exciting. By the sounds of things we should have everyone with us on the river. It looks like the angler of the year race will come down to our last tournament on the Gull River. I look forward to seeing everyone at river.

Words from the President

Hello All

Again another tournament passes as I shamefully say that summer is getting closer to over, "bummer". Lower Cullen decided not to be as nice to us as we had hoped, but what size lacked it sure made up for in numbers as I spoke to everyone we all had fun catching lots of fish but we split hairs looking for bigger fish.

Scott and Craig won this tournament pulling their biggest fish out of a dock and the rest of there keepers out of the reeds. Congrats to Scott as he has found his groove and is on a good role.

Jason and Justin had the same pattern going pulling their biggest fish from docks and reed as well. It looks like we all should have been doing that too.

The points lead is heating up, who can establish a lead and who will drop down spots? I bet Serpent will tell us a lot. Those who find fish will bring in some huge bags 16-17 lbs. plus will win this tournament. I look forward to seeing you all on the 24th at the access in Crosby.

Words from the President

Sorry this is so late you can blame Mother Nature for the bad weather we had in late May and early June, and Father Time for making time go by so fast. My computer was on the fritz and was not able to stay online long enough to write a story.

As expected winning bags were dominated by smallies. Jason and Nick focused on underwater points throwing hard baits for prespawn smallmouth catching a limit of 15lbs 10 oz., good enough for first place. Rod and Greg caught bedding smallmouth for a second place limit of 14lbs 6.5oz. I also want to note a congrats to Scott Roesner on my guess setting a record for 6 consecutive 4th place finishes, haha couldnt help but give ya a hard time Scott.

Lake Ossawinnamakee, Well we didnt have the big weights expected out of this lake, mainly because no one landed any of the DANDY smallies in this lake. However Rod and Corey made the best of situation catching a first place 12lbs .5 oz limit most of bass on weedy breaks with Rods big bass coming from under a pontoon, hope that wasnt someones pet. While Scott and Nick lured rock bass and sunnies away with one bait so the other could skip a bait deep under a boat lift or a dock to catch a second place 10lbs 14 oz limit. Congrats to Scott on defeating the plague of 4th place.

I look forward to seeing all of you at our next tournament now on Lower Cullen.

Thanks Nick

Monday, January 21, 2008

The Brainerd Lakes Bassmasters met Sunday January 20, 2008, at Bada Bings. President Keith Tuma called the meeting to order at 1:10 pm.

Present were: Dan Doughty, Jim Eide, Tony Espeland, Chad Foster, Justin Goss, Chad Ingvalson, Greg Kangas, Nick Koschmeder, Craig Paulson, Scott Roesner, Rod Romine, and Keith Tuma. Along with newcomer Corey Ledin.

Keith Tuma and Chad Foster reported on the Federation meeting in Medina. This year’s Tournament of Champions is being held September 3rd-5th on the Mississippi River pools 4 and 5 at Wabasha City Park. The alternate tournament is held on pool 5a out of Minnesota City. The limit for the TOC is 5 fish with no culling, and the top 4 will be counted as your weight. We will decide if/who wants to fish the TOC in upcoming meetings.

The Gopher Bass Club is the only club to put forth a proposal for the 2009 TOC, which would be held on Lake Pokegama. They’re still working with the DNR to also have the Mississippi River open.

A new club was created called the Elite Reserve Club for those members that would still like to fish the TOC but has had their clubs disbanded. The club would have one tournament to determine who’d qualify for the TOC.

The last thing at the Federation meeting was the introduction of the new website, www.mnbfn.org

Scott Roesner gave the treasury report with a total of $448.97 in the checkbook. A check for $350.00 was written at the end of November to the Minnesota Bass Federation for 6 people to keep our club in good standing.

Membership dues of $120 are due by the last meeting that is tentatively scheduled for early part of April. The break down of the $120 is $20 for administrative dues, $50 for Tournament dues, and $50 for State Federation dues.

Election of 2008 officers took place. Scott Roesner was re-elected to be Treasurer. Justin Goss was also re-elected as the Secretary. Rod Romine was newly elected as the Tournament Director with a unanimous vote. Also newly elected Nick Koschmeder as the Brainerd Lakes Bassmasters new 2008 President.

Next meeting was scheduled for February 17th at noon at Bada Bings. During that meeting we will determine tournament lakes and dates. Something to consider is having tournaments on new water that can be considered small but dividing up the lake method, which was used on Lake Hammal in our last tournament.
Meeting adjourned 1:53 pm.
