The Clash

On September 16th, the Brainerd Lakes, Baxter, and Range bass clubs fished North Long Lake to see who would have bragging rights as the top bass club.

Each club sent 3 boaters and 3 non-boaters. Each member had to fish with a member from another club while trying to out fish them.

We sent Keith Tuma, Jim Eide, and Chad Foster as the boaters. While the non-boaters were Craig Paulson, Nick Koschmeder, and Justin Goss.

Here is what the clubs brought to the scales.

Range Bass Club-----------------64 pounds 10.5 ounces
Baxter Bass Club-----------------71 pounds 0.5 ounces
Brainerd Lakes Bass Club-----72 pounds 6.5 ounces

Jim Eide caught the big bass which was 5 lbs 11 ounces.
He also placed 1st with 16 pounds 10.5 ounces.

Craig Paulson placed 3rd with 14 pounds 3.5 ounces.

We now have possession of the 1986 4 foot bass trophy.

Words from the President

Tournament number 2 is all wrapped up and the outcome was quite impressive. Congratulations to the first place team of Craig Paulson and Keith Tuma for their mixed bag of 3 small mouth and 2 large mouth for a combined weight of 20 lbs. 12 oz. and also big bass, a smallie weighing in at 5 lbs. 8 oz... Second place honors go to Chad Foster and Wade Hollingsworth who brought in 5 fish for 15 lbs. 1.5 oz., pretty impressive considering neither of them (Chad or Wade) did any pre-fishing, way to go guys!! The fish seemed to be loading up on crayfish, and when caught would resemble footballs, very healthy!!

Our next outing will be on Bay lake on Saturday July 28th. Once again, if you are unable to attend, please be in touch with Jim Eide ON or BEFORE July 25th....

One last order of buisness concerning our state team and the state tournament that will be held this year on Leech Lake. I have received confirmation that we will be sending 7 people and 1 alternate, this is how it will break down.. Our state team will consist of 4 people, those are Keith Tuma, Jim Eide, Scott Roesner, and Justin Goss, there will also be 3 people fishing as individuals, and they are as follows, Craig Paulson, Rod Romine and Chad Ingvalson. Our alternate who will be fishing Woman lake with a chance to qualify for an additional individual spot on Leech, is Wade Hollingsworth. Now, if your name was listed as one of the 8 that will be fishing state and the alternate, I am going to need you people to fill out some paperwork and provide some insurance information that NEEDS to be turned in (to the Federation) no later than the second week in August. I will be printing out the forms, and bringing them to Bay lake, have them filled out and back to myself or Justin A.S.A.P. so we can get them sent in on time. If there are any questions, please be in touch with me..

Words from the President

Our first tournament of the year is in the record books, and should go down as one of the best and closest tournaments in quite a while, with the top three spots being only ounces apart and all over 17 pounds!! Congratulations are in order for the first place team of Jim Eide and Nick Koshmeder who found shallow bedding and cruising largemouth later in the afternoon for a 5 fish limit of 17lbs 10.5 oz... Great job guys! And also congratulations are in order for our second place team of Chad Foster and Greg Kangas who also put together an extremely respectable 5 fish limit of 17lbs. 6.5oz. and happened to have the kicker bass of the day of 4lbs 14oz.. All in all, a ton of fish were caught all day on several different patterns and both lakes fished equally well.

Our next tournament will be held on Saturday, June 30th. on Woman lake. The access we are tentatively using will be right off of Hwy. 5, just past the Woman Lake Lodge, on the right side of the road. If you will be unable to fish, you MUST be in touch with Jim Eide or myself by no later than Wed. June 27th... Once again, to help with access crowding and fuel costs, be in touch with either your partner or even someone to carpool with and lets try to keep expenses to a minimum.

One last note, as many of you may have heard, there was a loss on Saturday, June 2nd... Ed Bogan of the Northern Black Bass club died while fishing a tournament on Leech Lake, in preparation for the up coming state tournament. From what has been said, the wind picked up quite a bit and all of the anglers were called back in not long into the day, and on the way back in, the boat he was in caught a rogue wave and he was ejected from the boat. Also as the report goes, he was brought back into the boat, and remained conscious for most of the way back, but then went unconscious shortly before arriving, and was unable to be resuscitated. Ed was a very active member of Mn. Bass, and several of the youth organizations within, he will be missed. Having just relayed that, it got me thinking and I'd just like to pass a little reminder to keep in mind as we continue with our season, and with every passing day that each is to be cherished as no one can predict which will be our last.

Directions to the Lake!!!

Here are some directions to the Platte Lake landing, from Brainerd, go south on Hwy. 25 to the Dewing Hwy. ( Hwy. 2), go left to Co. Rd. 113, take a right on 113. Follow 113 until it comes to a stop sign, this will be Co. Rd. 51, at the stop sign, go left, to Sunrise Point Rd. (I think thats the name), there is a public access sign there, the road goes to the left, the access is down this road about 1 mile, if you miss the turn there, and you come to the canal that is between Platte, and Sullivan, you've gone too far, turn around, look for public access sign, and then turn right... Also to make the trip a little easier, try to get in touch with your partners and if at all possible, carpool. This will help with fuel, and also help with parking at the landing, as it is a fairly small parking area that is provided.. See you guys there Sat... Keith

Words from the President

As some of you may have noticed, there was a slight change to the partner draws for this up comming year. There was a meeting held on Monday May 21st. at Bada Bings, in attendance (for the decision making) were Jim Eide, Justin Goss and myself. The reasons for this meeting were to pair as many "singles" or un-paired people to help cut down on costs, and also to fill a void from a person that ended up leaving us. All went well and there were not any life altering changes made.

The first tournament of the year is almost upon us, and there are some reminders that need to be stated, first of all, the tournament fees ($50) are due Friday, June 1st... I'm sure most if not all are up to date with this, but just a reminder. Also if you are unable to fish you MUST be in touch with Jim Eide by no later than the Wednesday before the tourney.. The access that we agreed on using will be the one just off of hwy 51 or the channel between the lakes. I have not been there yet, however if that access turns out to not be good or even there, then an alternate will be selected and you will be notified.

This weekend marks the opening of bass season, so with that in mind, lets get geared up, and plan for a bunch of big limits.. See you on the water.. Keith

March 18th, 2007, MEETING MINUTES

The Brainerd Lakes Bassmasters met Sunday, March 18th, 2007, at Bada Bings. The meeting was called to order at 2:00 PM, by President Keith Tuma.

Present were: Troy Bruns, Dan Doughty, Jim Eide, Tony Espeland, Justin Goss, Wade Hollingsworth, Chad Ingualson, Greg Kangas, Nick Koschmeder, Craig Paulson, Scott Roesner, Rod Romine, Keith Tuma, and Craig Wallace.

The treasurers report was read. We have a balance of around $840. Scott still had several people to collect money from for this years Membership, Tournament, and Federation dues.

Craig Paulson reported on the Federation meeting in Medina. The main talk was about the Bass weigh-in procedure and how it will help the Bass survival rate after a tournament.

Jim Eide made a suggestion on changing how and what we use during our tournaments. We’d have a few tubs and baskets where each team’s catch would rotate through the tubs and then would be weighed in the basket. The estimated cost would be around $50 dollars. The members present put it to a vote and it was approved.

We reviewed the tentative schedule of the lakes and dates of the tournaments.
-June 2nd Plate & Sullivan Lakes 7am-3pm
-June 30th Woman Lake 7am-3pm
-July 28th Bay Lake 7am-3pm
-August 18th Lake Belle Taine (Blind) 7am-3pm
-September 22nd Gull River 8am-4pm

The schedule was approved by the present members.

Rod Romine looked into the permit for Lake Belle Taine. Scott issued him a check to get the permit from the Sheriff’s department.

A motion was put in by Keith Tuma to have it mandatory for our members to be State Federation members. This will allow us to send more members to the State Tournament each year. When you become a State Federation member, the Club will pay for your National Federation membership which includes a insurance policy that covers you while you fish incase of an accident. The motion was voted on by the present members and approved.

Things to take care of before you fish:

>They’re a few members with B.A.S.S. memberships expiring or have expired. It is mandatory to have this membership to fish our tournaments. Visit http://www.bassmaster.com/ to renew membership or join. Renewal is $17.95 for a year. New member is $14.95. Hurry to get the gift offers!!

>Club dues are $20 and are due by next meeting.
>Tournament dues are $50 and are due by June 1st.
>State Federation dues are $50 and are due by April 20th.
Club, Tournament, and State Federation money can be given to Scott Roesner our Treasurer.

Currently we have 9 boaters and 6 non boaters, also have 3 unconfirmed members. We tabled the partner draw until our April meeting, leaving the membership open until then. Our bylaws allow for a total of 20 members. The next meeting was set for Wednesday April 11th at 7pm at Bada Bings.

Meeting adjourned at 3:00pm.
