Contest October 1, 2006

Brainerd Lakes Bassmasters Fishing Contest Planned Sunday October 1st
There will be an unsanctioned fishing contest for all BLB Members from Noon to 4pm on Hammel Lake Sunday October 1st.

Everyone attending will toss in $10. At the 4pm weigh-in each member will weigh-in up to five fish. The top two bags will take 70%/30% respectively. This will not be a “team” event. Each member will be fishing as an individual. We need to know how many people will be participating in order to organize who will bring boats. Please arrive at the landing no later than 11:30am. There will be no pre-fishing allowed on Sunday the 1st.
If you plan on participating please call Jim on his cell 218-839-4297.

Following the contest we’ll hang out for a impromptu picnic at Craigs. Please bring your own drinks (because this is a non-sanctioned tournament refreshments will also be allowed in the boats on this day), and bring your own “tube steak” (hot dog/brat/polish sausage) to toss on the grill. Craig will provide the buns, condiments and chips. We would ask that everyone throws in a couple bucks to help Craig pay for those items.

Words from the President

The Brainerd Lakes Bassmasters fifth year is now in the books. And it was another good year. A quick check of the year end standings shows there were many limits brought to the scales.
This was the case in our final tournament on North Long. It was a very windy day. There was a bit of a chill in the air. Trolling motor batteries took a beating. Still, each boat managed to put a limit of largemouth bass in the livewell.
Taking home first place trophies was the team of Scott and Justin. They mainly fished a main lake point. Scott also boated the big bass for the day. Congratulations to Scott and Justin!
Coming in second were Tom and Larry. They pretty much fished all over the main lake, with most of their fish also coming off a point. Good job guys.
Keith successfully defended his Angler of the Year title. That is no easy feat. There is no doubting the good year he had--with three wins. Way to go, Keith.
Some more congrats are in order. Chad finished fourth in the state alternate's tournament on Lake Alexander. This meant he was able to advance on to the State Bass Tournament of Champions. Congratulations to Chad. Our state team of Keith, Jim, Kim, and Troy had a good state tournament on Gull. The team represented us well, and we should be proud of them. So congratulations to them.
There will be some upcoming events. October 1 will be a mini-tournament on Hammel Lake. Our year end party is scheduled for October 8, 2:00 PM, at Chad and Mandee's. Bring a dish to pass and your own beer. Year end awards will be presented. Finally, I am looking at calling a meeting of the club for the final Sunday in October. We will need to get our initial state roster together at that time, plus elect officers for the new year.
I would like to thank Kim for all the work she has done in putting together our newsletters for the year and for keeping track of the standings. Thank you to Jim for serving as our tournament director. The digital scale was a great addition. And thanks to Scott for managing our finances. These three put in a lot of work this year.
Again, it was a great year. I am already looking forward to year six.
Dan

Words from the President

Another couple of tournaments have come and gone.
Our blind tournament was held on Mission Lake. This was an interesting day to say the least. Keith's motor overheated. Kim's boat almost sank. The wind howled. Other than that, it was a pretty good day for all involved. All the boats brought a limit of bass to the scales.
Jim and Troy took home first place trophies with their 13lb 7.5oz bag (And they were nice trophies.) Jim also took big bass for the day with a 3lb 10oz largemouth. They caught their limit in the reeds and along the deep weedlines off the reeds. Congratulations Jim and Troy.
Coming home in second place with 10lbs 14oz were Tom and Mike. Tom earned his first trophy as a member of our club. Tom and Mike fished reeds, slop, and just about everything else. Good job, guys.
One week later, we found ourselves on the Whitefish chain. I believe this was the first tournament for which we needed the rain gear. It was a pretty wet day. That did not hamper the fishing, though, as many limits were brought to the scales.
Keith and Craig brought in the heaviest bag, weighing 15lb 9oz and took first place honors. For those who are counting, this is Keith's third win of the year. Keith and Craig fished mostly in Upper Whitefish, but did take a side trip into Arrowhead. Nice job, Keith and Craig.
Second place went to Scott and Wade with 12lb 3oz. Wade also took big bass with a beautiful 4lb 13oz smallmouth. Scott and Wade fished weedlines in Lower Hay. Congratulations Scott and Wade.
Our final tournament will be Saturday, September 9, at North Long. Note the time change for this event. We will begin at 8:00 AM and end at 4:00 PM.
The State BASS tournament is coming up September 7 and 8. It will be on Gull Lake, with weigh-ins beginning at 3:00 PM each day. Weigh-in site is Ernie's. Good luck to Keith, Jim, Kim, Troy, and Dan. They will be representing the Brainerd Lakes Bassmasters in this year's State Tournament. Good luck, also, to Chad. He will be fishing the alternate's tournament. With a good showing, he, too, will move on to state.
Our year end party has been tentatively scheduled for October 8. Chad and Mandee will host us. Details will be forthcoming. As the season winds down, we need to begin looking to next year. There will be a club meeting the end of October or beginning of November. We will need to put together our initial state roster, elect officers for the coming year, and determine who will be attending the state federation meetings for the next year. (I will plan on attending the first one in October.)
It has been a good year. Remember that we are a club. See you all at North Long.

Dan
